We here swiftly crush ten of the most common arguments used to prove the existence of ‘God’.
Nietzsche wrote that one must, ‘philosophise with a hammer’!
Of course each point could be qualified and elaborated upon with a volume of books, but I attempt to get to the core of each one concisely.
These arguments for God were defeated hundreds, sometimes thousands, of years ago – but they persist due to socio-psychological rather than intellectual reasons.
The arguments crushed are:
- 1. Teleological Argument –
a . Evolution not Creationism created humans .
b. Over 98% of all organisms are extinct . Not so perfect creator .
c. Human body is not perfectly designed . eg. Eye blind spot , Appendix .
- 2. Ontological Argument
Existence is not an attribute , but merely a condition to have real attributes
- 3. Cosmological Argument
a. If everything needs to have a cause , what caused God .
b. If something can exist forever , then the universe can exist forever .
c. Even if the universe was the result of a cause , there is absolutely no proof that the cause was based on consciousness , love , human emotions .
- 4. Miracles
a. All religions claim miracles , but all of the religions can never be truth at the same time as they oppose each others concepts .
b. No miracle has been verified by people outside the miracle’s religion .
- 5. ‘Cannot Disprove God’ Argument
One cannot disapprove unproved theories . This doesn’t make their existence as probable as non-existence .
- 6. Personal Revelation
a. Faith is not proof , hunger is not bread
b. All religions have personal revelations . So if you are religious , you must say that the faith of the people in other religions is false .
c. Hallucinations are not proof of what is seems is real .
- 7. Holy Scripture
I read a book about Santa , which is supposedly written by Santa , in which he claims that – Santa exists .
- 8. ‘Purpose of Life’ Argument
a. There is no purpose for life .
b. Giving a purpose for life is ones own decision .
c. Many people are psychologically weak and cannot apprehend the fact their they will cease to exist and hence are lured by the false promises of afterlife given by religions .
- 9. God-of-the-Gaps Argument
If there is lack of evidence or if a scientific theory is wrong , that will in no way means that the god theory was right . It will just mean Ignorance .
- 10. Moral Argument
a. Descriptive morality is explained by Evolution and is based on the species’ genetic survival .
b. Prescriptive morality , telling people what they should and shouldn’t do is merely an illusion , it is infact power imperative disguised as a statement of fact .
Of course there are other arguments, equally feeble, but these seem to be the most common.
In the 21st century we must abandon the concept of god in order to move on . Such Infantile motions for god are primitive , propagated by those who seek power and control of the society .Their delusion must be Annihilated .
